SECURE BROWSERS & BROWSER ENCRYPTION
Secure browsers employ secure sockets layer (SSL) technology to communicate with our servers.
We highly recommend our account holders to use of a 128-bit secure browser (highest security available) to login to
their account, perform transactions and send and receive secure e-mail. Netscape Navigator®, Netscape
Communicator®, and Microsoft® Internet Explorer are secure browsers. If you are not using one of these browsers,
you may download an upgraded browser by following the icons in the righthand side margin. Once you've downloaded
the new browser, you must install it on your computer, by following the manufacturer's instructions that appear on
your screen.
128 BIT SSL
Secure sockets layer (SSL) technology is banking industry standard for secure online transactions. This protocol
was designed by Netscape Communications Corporation to provide secure communications on the Internet. Once you
click the "LOGIN" button, this technology encrypts all communications between your browser and our webservers.
Secure Socket Layer provides three levels of security;
- SSL authenticates that the server you have connected to is the one it purports to be (You can be assured that you are actually communicating with us, and not a third party trying to intercept the transaction).
- SSL creates a secure communication channel by encrypting all communication between the client and the server.
- SSL conducts a cryptographic word count to ensure data integrity between the server and the user. The word count or checksum provides a count of the number of bytes in a document and ensures the exact number of bytes is transmitted and received. With SSL, even this checksum is encrypted so it cannot be modified. If a message is not received in its entirety, it is rejected and another copy of the message is sent automatically.
VERIFYING A SECURE CONNECTION
How can you tell when you connection is secure? You will be able to see a padlock or key icon on your browser
(example below), indicating a secure connection.
This will appear on the login page, and once you have successfully logged in, on all pages in the online banking
secure area, and any page that displays or requests account, username, password, application, or any other
sensitive information. This includes instruction forms, account application forms and all secure email. The
padlock icon will not appear on non secure pages containing general information about this site.

LOGGING IN WITH USERNAME AND PASSWORD
You are required to provide your username and a password to enter the secure area of the site and access your
account information. Your password is not displayed when entered. If you do not provide this information, we cannot
establish an online banking secure connection for you.
COMPUTER SECURITY
Never access the banking site from a computer that an non-trusted individual may have access to. Insure that
passwords are not being cached. Insure that no one is physically watching as you enter your username and password.
Take standard and regular precautions to keep your computer free from viruses, trojans and keystroke logging
software.
SECURE EMAIL
The AFBC Online Banking Secure Server enables you to send and receive Secure Email encrypted through secure socket
layer ("SSL"). This is a very secure way of communicating with us. Once secure mail has been read and actioned, it
is recommended that the email is deleted. The print icon may not print on some browsers. An alternative is
'CTRL P' or 'Apple P'.
LOG OUT
Please use the "Log Out" feature if you are going to be away from your computer for an extended period of time.
Logout will end your session, and you will have to submit your username and password before entering the website
again. We strongly recommend shutting down your browser as a good way to prevent others from using your access.
After a period of inactivity your current session on the website will automatically timeout. To restart your session, re-enter your username and password at the login screen.
INTERNAL DATABASE SYSTEMS & FIREWALLS
Out Internal Client Account Database Network is separate and distinct from our Online Banking Secure Server.
These networks are physically removed and not accessible. Firewalls are used to shield our systems and Internal
Client database networks from any unauthorized Internet traffic. The purpose of a firewall is to ensure only
authorized traffic is allowed to pass to our systems and networks-all other traffic from the Internet is rejected.
Firewalls also create logs of network traffic that allow for centralized auditing and security monitoring.
